Anthropic's IPO filing says self-improving AI may be "imminent"

In its amended S-1, the Claude maker tells investors it may soon meet its Responsible Scaling Policy threshold for "dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI," while also revealing a $1.7B quarterly payroll.

The new Risk Factors language, published Monday and first spotted by TechCrunch, says Anthropic's "internal estimates and our expectations regarding future models" indicate it may imminently meet the definition of dramatically accelerated progress attributable to AI, the condition that in effect describes recursive self-improvement: an AI system that improves itself, and the improved version improves itself again. Under that policy, Anthropic commits to exploring "ambitious and possibly unconventional" ways to achieve unprecedented levels of security, and to a state of "eyes on everything" over its internal activities.

The same filing shows a business that is growing but maturing. Anthropic recorded more than $1.7 billion in personnel expenses for July through September, spread across 5,300 employees, or about $107,000 per person per month, with $1.1 billion of that coming from stock-based compensation. Revenue for the first nine months of 2026 reached $33.2 billion, and the payroll is now only about 15 percent of it, down from 2023, when Anthropic spent more on people than it earned from customers. Had its IPO completed on September 30, 2026, the company says it would have booked an $8.2 billion stock-based compensation charge that single day.

Apple posts a record iPhone quarter despite skipping a standard iPhone

Pro-only pricing and a September refresh lifted iPhone revenue 17 percent to $57.58 billion, even as rising memory costs squeeze the company.

In its fourth-quarter earnings report released Monday, Apple said iPhone revenue jumped 17 percent year over year to $57.58 billion, a record quarter despite the company not releasing a standard model in this year's refresh. Total revenue rose 12 percent to $114.5 billion; the Mac business grew 24 percent to $10.79 billion, services reached $31.57 billion, and iPad fell 10 percent to $6.23 billion.

CEO John Ternus said the quarter carried higher memory costs than the June quarter, partly offset by carrying inventory and cheaper non-memory components. The results also cap a busy stretch: the iPhone 18 lineup launched in September, the first folding phone, the iPhone Duo, just debuted with preorder sales not included in this report and some estimated shipments extending into 2027, and Apple recently showed a touchscreen MacBook Pro.

The New York Times sues Brave over AI scraping and paywall bypassing

The Times and three other papers are suing the maker of the Brave browser, which they say sold "stolen copyrighted content" to AI companies including Anthropic, Perplexity, Mistral, xAI, and Cohere.

The New York Times, the New York Daily News, the Chicago Tribune, and the Orlando Sentinel filed lawsuits alleging that Brave Software scraped their websites without permission and monetized the result by selling AI companies paid access to "real-time online content from the Brave Index," which those companies use to train models and answer user queries. The complaint also says Brave lets its users bypass publisher paywalls without consent, and has never compensated publishers for the use, copying, and distribution of their content.

"Brave has never asked for the Publishers' permission to access their websites, much less to copy the material," the complaint says. Steven Lieberman, the attorney who filed the suit on behalf of the other three publications, accused Brave of "laundering pirated reporting for the AI industry." Perplexity's chief communications officer, Jesse Dwyer, pushed back that the Times is "overpaying its attorneys and underpaying its journalists."

Britain gets a warning: AI-powered ransomware attacks arrive by 2028

The UK's cyber agency says critical infrastructure is a likely target, and its chief is urging bosses to stop doing "tech on the cheap."

Britain's national cyber agency is warning that AI-powered ransomware attacks are expected to arrive by 2028, with critical infrastructure identified as a likely target. Its chief is urging business leaders to stop treating technology as an afterthought budget line, arguing that underinvestment now will meet more capable attackers.

SUSE cuts 10 percent of its workforce, citing AI and automation

The Bavarian enterprise Linux vendor says AI-driven change is reshaping the industry, and it is shrinking to match.

SUSE CEO Dirk-Peter van Leeuwen told staff in an internal memo that AI and automation are leading to changes in the industry, and the company is responding with a 10 percent global workforce reduction. Affected employees are set to be notified beginning November 4. The move follows voluntary separation offers sent out in September, which did not have enough uptake to satisfy management.

ServiceNow Stock Plunges 32% as Investors Fear Agentic AI Disruption

ServiceNow lost a third of its market value in a single week despite delivering strong quarterly earnings, as investors grapple with fears that agentic AI could disrupt the enterprise workflow platform model.

The selloff was not driven by weak financials. ServiceNow reported solid revenue growth, but market participants are pricing in a more existential concern: the rise of AI agents that could automate the very workflows ServiceNow platforms orchestrate. Analysts are watching closely to see whether ServiceNow can position itself as an enabler of agentic AI rather than a victim of it. The sharp decline has prompted debate over whether this is a buying opportunity or a signal of deeper structural challenges facing platform software companies.

ServiceNow Acquired Israeli Startup Sweep to Accelerate CRM Rollouts

ServiceNow CEO Bill McDermott announced that its acquisition of Israeli startup Sweep is enabling the company to deploy CRM solutions for enterprise customers in weeks rather than the traditional multi-year implementation timelines.

McDermott stated that rollouts now take approximately 30 to 60 days for large organizations, a dramatic compression compared to legacy CRM deployment cycles. The acquisition underscores ServiceNow's aggressive push into the CRM market, where it competes directly with Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics. By leveraging Sweep's technology, ServiceNow aims to lower the barrier for enterprises looking to consolidate their customer relationship management onto its Now Platform, potentially winning deals that were previously out of reach due to implementation complexity and timeline.

Adobe vs. ServiceNow: A Tale of Two Valuations for 2027 Investors

A new analysis contrasts Adobe's deep value positioning at a 10.2x forward P/E with ServiceNow's premium 26.6x multiple, revealing a fundamental divergence in investor expectations for the two tech giants heading into 2027.

While Adobe trades at a significant discount on earnings multiples, ServiceNow commands a steep premium backed by its double-digit revenue growth trajectory. Over the past two years, ServiceNow has grown revenue every single quarter, creating a consistent compounding story that the market rewards. Adobe, by contrast, has exhibited more volatile seasonal trends that complicate growth visibility. For long-term investors, the key question is whether ServiceNow's growth premium is sustainable or whether Adobe's valuation gap represents a deeper market skepticism about its ability to maintain momentum in an AI-disrupted creative software landscape.
