OpenAI fires three safety researchers, stands by the decision

OpenAI has dismissed three AI safety researchers, citing a significant breach of trust, after the researchers disputed the claims in an open letter warning of a chilling effect on the company's safety culture.

OpenAI announced on X that Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak, and Mikita Balesni were fired for violating clear policies. The company said an internal investigation found they committed a significant breach of trust, and it defended the decision firmly despite pushback from the dismissed researchers.

USA Today sues OpenAI over alleged copyright infringement

USA Today Co. is suing OpenAI, claiming the company copied hundreds of thousands of articles to train its AI models and seeking more than $25 million in damages.

The filing, submitted on Thursday, joins a growing wave of publisher lawsuits against OpenAI. USA Today and several local newspapers it owns argue that OpenAI's training practices constitute widespread copyright infringement, continuing a legal pattern that has seen other major news organizations take similar action.

Anthropic launches presidential engagement effort on AI policy

Anthropic announced a new initiative to advise presidential candidates and elected officials from both parties on AI policy ahead of the 2028 election.

The company aims to ensure every serious candidate understands the technology and the case for governing it well. This effort reflects the growing convergence of frontier AI and national security, a trend underscored by both OpenAI and Anthropic hiring former Trump administration officials for senior roles this year.

MIT Technology Review warns we put too much faith in AI's ability to say no

A new analysis argues that society is overestimating how reliably AI models can refuse harmful or dangerous prompts, even as models are trained to reject a vast number of requests.

The article, part of the publication's daily Download newsletter, examines the growing concern that AI refusal mechanisms are not as robust as assumed. It highlights risks when systems that cannot be trusted to consistently say no are deployed in high-stakes applications, calling for more rigorous evaluation of model safety boundaries.

ServiceNow launches AI Workflow Factory to turn workflow improvement into a continuous AI loop

ServiceNow unveiled AI Workflow Factory and Autonomous Engineer in Mumbai, pitching a governed, agentic loop to push enterprise AI from pilots to production.

ServiceNow (NYSE: NOW) announced two new solutions at its World Forum in Mumbai: AI Workflow Factory and Autonomous Engineer, capabilities designed to turn workflow improvement into a continuous, agentic AI-powered loop. The factory connects Process Mining, Autonomous Engineer and Build Agent, and App Engine, so instead of starting a fresh transformation project for every business problem, each outcome reveals the next multi-process opportunity. ServiceNow says the approach lets enterprises scale business operations in days rather than months, with people setting direction and approving outcomes while AI does the heavy lifting.

Governance is the through-line. The AI Control Tower governs workflows, decisions, and agent actions, and Action Fabric extends the governed loop to third-party AI agents and tools. ServiceNow positioned India as a key market, citing its 2026 Enterprise AI Maturity Index finding that enterprise AI investment in India grew 119% in a single year, with more than a third of its engineering talent based there. It backed the launch with customer examples, including Lenovo, which it says resolves support cases 35% faster, and L&T, which deployed 1,500 AI agents and cut IT tickets by nearly a third. AI Workflow Factory is globally available today, while Autonomous Engineer is in early access on request.

ServiceNow vs. UiPath: which AI stock is the better buy?

A Motley Fool analysis weighs ServiceNow's faster, profitable growth against UiPath's cheaper valuation and first year of GAAP profitability.

In a comparison published Oct 7, Motley Fool contributor Mike Schwenk weighed ServiceNow (NOW) against UiPath (PATH) as AI-automation bets for 2026. ServiceNow automates complex enterprise workflows for around 8,700 customers and posted fiscal 2025 revenue of roughly $13.3 billion, up about 21%, with net income near $1.75 billion and free cash flow close to $4.6 billion; its AI products passed $1 billion in annual contract value in the second quarter. UiPath serves about 10,747 customers and reported fiscal revenue of roughly $1.6 billion, up about 13%, reaching its first full year of GAAP profitability, though about $204.9 million of its roughly $282 million net income came from a one-time release of a deferred tax valuation allowance.

Schwenk leans toward ServiceNow for a long-term hold, citing faster growth and profits that come from the core business rather than a tax benefit. He flags risks on both sides: ServiceNow's large, partly debt-funded Armis acquisition of roughly $7.75 billion, completed in April 2026, and a balance sheet that swelled to about $7.5 billion by June, while UiPath's customer count was essentially flat last fiscal year. He keeps UiPath on a watch list until growth picks up.
