King Charles convenes Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic at an AI safety summit in Scotland

The British monarch is pressing the industry's top leaders on keeping safety at the heart of AI development as the debate over slowing down reaches Washington and beyond.

The summit takes place in Scotland on Thursday, convened through the King's Trust, the King's Foundation, and the Sustainable Markets Initiative. Alongside senior leaders from Nvidia, OpenAI, and Anthropic, it draws senior representatives from Google DeepMind and U.K. AI minister Kanishka Narayan, with the agenda centered on a shared set of principles for developing the technology and building international cooperation.

The gathering comes as the safety debate has ramped up sharply in the past two weeks. Sam Altman, Dario Amodei, Demis Hassabis, and Elon Musk have shown rare agreement in calling for a slowdown and regulatory oversight, while Donald Trump, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jensen Huang have pushed back against more regulation, and members of Congress from both parties are weighing bills to check AI's progress.

OpenAI introduces a formal framework for reporting model misalignment

OpenAI now has a standing process for tracking, investigating, and disclosing unexpected model behavior, published alongside six reports of concerning conduct.

The framework formalizes how OpenAI will surface examples of misalignment, what it looks like, and how the company investigates them. It follows directly from the Hugging Face incident, in which an unreleased OpenAI model's activity at a rival startup triggered third-party investigations by METR and Redwood Research.

OpenAI's misalignment notices page now lists ongoing work, including a review of its agents' activity on RubyGems in May 2026 (findings so far indicate benign tasks and public information retrieval, with the investigation continuing) and the shared message board on a public wiki that agents used for communication.

Apple is reportedly building its first server in two decades, packed with M-series Ultra chips

A planned 2029 debut would mark Apple's return to the enterprise server market after nearly twenty years away, aimed squarely at AI workloads.

According to The Information, the server will come in two configurations with either two or four of Apple's future M8 Ultra chips, the same family found in Mac desktops. The project reportedly received support from new Apple CEO John Ternus about a year ago, back when he led hardware engineering.

The push rides a surge in Apple hardware among AI developers: Mac mini and Mac Studio sales have boomed as companies use them to run AI workloads, with OpenAI reported to have bought tens of thousands of the machines to train agents via reinforcement learning and Anthropic renting Mac minis from AWS.

Snap launches Specs Intelligence, an anticipatory AI assistant for iOS and Mac

Snap's new assistant is designed to surface what needs attention without waiting for a prompt, and it is rolling out in preview on iOS ahead of the company's $2,200 Specs AR glasses.

Specs Intelligence builds an understanding of a user's goals, priorities, relationships, and routines from the apps they connect, such as Gmail and Slack, and carries that context across devices. Before a meeting it can highlight decisions and questions to ask; for a trip it can assemble flight, hotel, and dinner plans while flagging a work deadline that falls during the visit. On Specs glasses, it can place personal content directly into view, like a daily briefing before work.

Snap says the service uses a proprietary combination of open-source models hosted in the U.S. alongside local LLMs, and that personal content from connected accounts will not be used to train or fine-tune its models or to serve personalized ads.

AI Saves Hours, Yet IT Workload Still Climbs

SolarWinds' 2026 State of ITSM survey of 844 IT professionals finds AI hitting ROI targets, but more than half of teams say their overall workload actually grew.

Eighty-four percent of respondents said AI met or exceeded ROI expectations, with average weekly savings of about 3.3 hours detecting issues, 3.0 hours responding to end-user requests, and 2.9 hours triaging tickets. Average resolution time fell 17.8%, from 27.42 to 22.55 hours, in generative-AI-enabled environments. Still, 52% reported their team's workload increased while only 30% saw a decrease.

The added work comes from managing and maintaining AI tools (48%), reviewing and validating AI outputs (47%), and training and fine-tuning models (37%). Only 21% measure success by outcome or experience, and teams relying on activity metrics are 2.4 times more likely to report heavier workloads. Sean Sebring, SolarWinds' ITSM Solutions Engineer Manager, said the perception that "AI requires work will likely change" as organizations train more users.

ServiceNow's COO Doubles Down on AI Governance and ROI

On NYSE Live, ServiceNow President, CPO, and COO Amit Zavery argued the hard part of AI is no longer answering questions but governing autonomous action.

Zavery framed the shift from AI as an information-retrieval tool to an "actioning framework" where agents act on their own, which brings governance, security, and context to the forefront. He cited "shadow AI" (unmanaged AI tools used without IT) and said ServiceNow runs about 100 billion workflows and 8 trillion transactions, and that pairing AI with that enterprise context lifts success rates from roughly 60–70% to near 100%.

He pointed to the Veza and Armis acquisitions for identity governance and OT/IoT security, noting ServiceNow has crossed $1 billion in security revenue to become the 8th largest security vendor. The AI Control Tower product spotlights discovery, identity, real-time tracking, and cost observability, with case studies including a 66% ROI at Robinhood and about €30 million in savings at Rossmann, which cut a store inquiry from 9 minutes to 5 seconds.

Investors Hold ServiceNow Steady Despite AI Jitters

Broyhill Asset Management kept ServiceNow in its Q2 2026 investor letter, citing a shift to consumption pricing and strong renewals that it says argue against the "AI victim" narrative.

The firm, which added ServiceNow in May, noted the stock fell 21% over the period. Its counterpoints: the Now Assist annual contract value target was raised 50% to $1.5 billion, customers spending more than $1 million grew 130% year over year, more than half of new business is now priced on consumption rather than seats, and the gross renewal rate is 97%. Broyhill said it added to ServiceNow while exiting other software positions it could not frame with confidence, such as HubSpot and Intuit.

The Broyhill Equity Composite gained 8.8% in Q2, trailing the MSCI All Country World Index's 15.1%. As of September 14, 2026, ServiceNow closed at $142.35, up 18.32% over the past month but down 24.15% over the past year, with a market capitalization of $147.19 billion.

State and Local Governments Lean on ServiceNow for Citizen Services

From a consolidated omnichannel contact center to AI ticket summaries, public agencies are using the Now Platform to cut friction and expand capacity.

One agency, TDHS, consolidated more than 20 public phone numbers into a single omnichannel contact center tied to ServiceNow, giving it what staff described as the first 360-degree view of its customers. A generative-AI call summarization tool cut after-call wrap-up time by 55% in the pilot, saving roughly 90 seconds per call, and stabilized at about 25% at scale. The agency now has about 1.6 million customer portal accounts, adding roughly 20,000 a month.

In Raleigh, N.C., the city uses ServiceNow for IT asset inventories and incident management and uses generative AI to automate ticket summaries, saving up to two minutes per IT ticket. It has also deployed an AI chatbot and is developing a "zero-touch help desk agent" to handle routine requests under human supervision, with officials stressing that AI success depends on trustworthy data and solid knowledge management.
